If you haven’t been paying attention to TikTok, you haven’t been paying attention! Let us get you up to speed:

 

With more than 500 million active users, TikTok has exploded on the social media scene. In fact, this February, the app has exceeded a whopping one billion downloads from the App Store and Google Play.

 

TikTok, a new social media app that feels like a cross between Vine and Snapchat, is spreading like wildfire. And trust us, you’re going to want to stay ahead of it. Basically, it’s a Chinese-owned social video-sharing app. Users can shoot, edit and share 15-second videos jazzed up with filters, music, animation, special effects and more. Just like its fellow social media apps, users can follow, like, and comment on everything they see. Simply, TikTok is here to make social media fun again. 

 

 Most TikTok users are young, with 41% aged between 16-24. So if this isn’t your target audience, it may not be the right time to start investing in a TikTok strategy, but it’s still super important to be in the know about!

 

INSTAGRAM POSTS AND IGTV VIDEOS CAN NOW BE SCHEDULED THROUGH FACEBOOK

Until last month, Instagram and IGTV could only be scheduled via selected third-party apps. Now, Facebook’s Creator Studio has a new feature allowing business account holders to schedule Instagram and IGTV content up to six months in advance for more convenient content planning and management.

 

Along with this Creator Studio update it comes with Facebook Live analytics and video editing tools such as Facebook Live trimming.

 

 

INSTAGRAM SNEAKS IN ‘DARK MODE’ JUST IN TIME FOR HALLOWEEN

Everyone just loves a dark mode, don’t they? Both iOS 13 and Android 10 systems can turn on this theme and join the dark forces as long as the user is running the latest version of Instagram. But how do you do this little bit of dark magic?

 

For iOS:

  1. Check you’re running iOS13 or above by going to your Settings app
  2. Tap General > Software update. Here you can see what version you’re running and if you need to update
  3. Once up-to-date, open Settings app to enable Dark Mode
  4. Tap Display and Brightness > select Dark (instead of default Light)

 

Something to note: Once enabled, iOS’s Dark Mode affects all apps that have Dark Mode compatibility

 

For Android:

  1. Check you’re running Android 10
  2. Once up-to-date, head to Settings > select Display and Advanced
  3. Lastly, select Dark from the Device theme menu

 

 

INSTAGRAM REMOVES ITS CREEPY STALKING FEATURE, THE FOLLOWING TAB

AHHH Instagram. You’ve done us proud by removing the ‘Following’ tab — a feature that became better known as a stalking tool than one to assist with new account discovery, as originally intended… 

 

Nowadays, the Instagram Explore tab is the go-to place to find new people, places and hashtags to follow while the Following tab was only being used by a handful of people so not worth it to continue.

 

The now-scrapped feature showed the likes, comments and follows of your friends. Thankfully, the heart tab now displays only your own activity.

 

 

INSTAGRAM’S NEW APP, THREADS, IS JUST FOR YOUR INNER CIRCLE

Facebook introduced Threads from Instagram, a stand-alone messaging app designed to be used only by your closest friends.

Its core components are:

  • The camera, which is the default screen when you open the app. It’s just for taking photos and videos. There are no filters here. The app also offers customisable shortcuts for your close friends, so that if you primarily use the app to message two or three people, you can put their profile picture right on the bottom of the camera screen. Take your picture, tap their photo, and swipe up to send. In a demonstration, taking and sending a photo was remarkably fast

 

  • The inbox, which mirrors your direct messages on Instagram but is limited to your close friends. That means it will likely be the shortest inbox in your life! It includes group chats, but only if everyone involved is a close friend of yours.

 

  • The status screen, which seems likely to be the most controversial aspect of Threads. It’s a modern-day take on the ‘away message’ that builds on some previous Facebook efforts to bring back AOL away message-style status updates to the social network.

 

 

INSTAGRAM TURNS ‘THROWBACK THURSDAYS’ INTO A STORIES FEATURE

Instagram has condensed all its Stories editing and enhancing tools into one new feature — ‘Create’ mode. Create mode has multiple options to choose from including:‘Templates,’ GIFs, ‘Countdown’ and the old-school ‘#ThrowbackThursday’. To access the throwback content choose ‘On this Day’ and roll the dice! Not keen on the past post they showed you? Roll the dice again.
